Mario Lavista, one of the most acclaimed Mexican composers of his generation, passed away last Thursday at the age of 78. Born in Mexico City, Lavista studied with Carlos Chávez, Héctor Quintanar, and Rodolfo Halffter at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música.
